I have had plenty of opportunities to explore the effects of the media outside of my research laboratory. After marrying in 1975, my wife, Cheri, and I had three children. As if raising three kids isn’t enough to keep one busy, Cheri has also managed to complete a Master’s degree in Child Development and Family Studies here at Purdue–followed by a Ph.D. in Social Psychology. Cheri has a practice as a Developmental Specialist. Our beloved dog, Mackey, ended her long life of nearly 17-years on February 1st of 2006. We now have a new dog, Skyler who joins our foster pets: Boscoe (who pretends he is a real dog) and Gus (who is definitely a real cat–he even bites people who try to pet him).
David, our oldest graduated from Indiana University (sorry–no links to Indiana on the home page of a Purdue professor) in the summer of 2000. After teaching English as a second language in South Korea and living in Salamanca, Spain, David returned to Indiana and earned a master’s degree at IUPUI in the teaching of Spanish. He has also studied Spanish literature at CUA in Washington, DC. David married Jenna Zent in June, 2009 and after Jenna completed her law degree at the IUPUI Law School, they both took off to South Korea to teach English. His many travels notwithstanding, David is still a die-hard Purdue fan. David and Jenna are both teaching at Chungbuk National University in Cheongju.
Our oldest daughter (Erin) graduated in June, 2003 from the University of Chicago Erin worked for over two years at Purdue University as a Transportation Safety Associate at what is now the Center for Road Safety. In August, 2006 she began doctoral studies in social psychology at Florida State University. In August, 2009, Erin married Mr. Cameron Ward. In August, 2012 Erin started a new job as a Continuing Lecturer in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Purdue University. She should be Dr. Erin Sparks very shortly. Cameron is a computer expert who hopes to be working shortly in the Lafayette area.
Jordan graduated from Wheaton College in 2007 after spending her fall semester studying at Oxford in England. She held a job for two years at the Department of Justice in Washington, DC until mid-July, 2009. In September of 2009 she began a doctoral program at the University of Minnesota in Clinical Science and Psychopathology Research. In addition to her studies, she enjoys doing things with her boyfriend and amusing her two cats, Wimba and Harper.

Cheri has a practice as a Developmental Specialist. She is associated with Therapies at Play and works with First Steps of Indiana.
